# About the Bookings Pricing API

The Bookings Pricing API allows you to preview and calculate the price of a [booking](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/bookings/bookings-writer-v2/introduction). Use this API to retrieve booking pricing details when building a custom checkout flow or displaying booking cost outside the Wix site.

With the Bookings Pricing API you can:

- **Preview pricing**: Estimate the cost of booking line items before creating the actual booking.
- **Price calculation**: Determine the final price of existing bookings.

## Price consistency

In most situations, the preview price and calculated price are identical when using the same booking parameters.
However, the final amount charged to customers during [eCommerce checkout](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/e-commerce/introduction) may differ from both the preview and calculated base prices due to:

- **Discounts and coupons**: Promotional codes or automatic discounts applied at checkout time.
- **Booking fees**: Cancellation fees or other booking-related charges that may be added to orders.
- **Payment processing**: Additional charges from payment providers or currency conversion fees.
- **Time-sensitive pricing**: The business changes the service price between calling Preview Price and Calculate Price.

## Service pricing options

Wix Bookings allows Wix users to offer their services for a fixed price, for free, or a varied price based on which [variant](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/services/service-options-and-variants/introduction) the customer signs up for. ## Duration-based pricing

Services configured with a duration range allow customers to choose how long to book the service. For these services, pricing is calculated based on the duration of the booking rather than just the number of participants.

To calculate duration-based pricing, include `localStartDate`, `localEndDate`, and `timeZone` in the booking line items when calling [Preview Price](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/pricing/pricing-api/preview-price). The price is calculated as follows:

- **Hourly services**: Price is calculated per minute. For example, a 2.5-hour booking at $10/hour costs $25.
- **Daily services**: Partial days are rounded up to the next full day. For example, a 9-hour booking on a daily service is charged as 1 full day.

If the service also has [duration variants](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/services/service-options-and-variants/introduction) configured, the variant price is used when the booking duration matches a variant exactly. If no variant matches, the base per-unit price is used.

If `localStartDate`, `localEndDate`, and `timeZone` aren't provided for a service with a duration range, pricing falls back to participant-based calculation.

## Before you begin

Note the following points before starting to code:

- Install [Wix Bookings](fallback::https://www.wix.com/app-market/web-solution/bookings) on a site before you can use the Pricing API.
- You can only preview the price for line items belonging to the same [service](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/services/services-v2/introduction). You can't use [Preview Price](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/pricing/pricing-api/preview-price) if line items belong to different services.
- If the business uses a [Pricing Service Provider Plugin](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/pricing/pricing-integration-service-plugin/introduction), Preview Price calls fail completely. The plugin overrides standard Wix Bookings pricing logic, and preview functionality isn't supported with custom pricing providers.
- When a Pricing Service Provider Plugin is installed, Calculate Price gets its response directly from the external provider instead of using Wix Bookings' standard pricing calculation logic.
- Currently, you can't check whether a specific site is using a Pricing Service Provider Plugin before making API calls.

## Terminology

- **Base price**: The fundamental price of a booking before additional taxes, fees, or charges are applied during the eCommerce checkout process. This is the price calculated by the Pricing API that serves as the foundation for the final customer charge.
- **Booking line item**: A booking consists of separate line items for each service variant. For example, in a booking where a customer signs up for 1 child and 3 adults, there are 2 booking line items: one for the variant `child` with `{"numberOfParticipants": 1}` and another for the variant `adult` with `{"numberOfParticipants": 3}`.
- **Service choices**: Custom choices that customers can select when booking a service, such as age groups or equipment types, each potentially having different pricing.
- **Varied Pricing**: A pricing model that adjusts the cost of a service based on specific factors, such as the type of equipment booked or the customer's age. For example, seniors may receive a discount, while the business might charge more if its most experienced staff member provides the service.
- **Duration range**: A service configuration that allows customers to choose a booking duration within a minimum and maximum range. Services with a duration range use duration-based pricing instead of fixed-session pricing.
- **Pricing Service Provider Plugin**: An external service that completely overrides Wix Bookings' standard pricing logic. When installed, Preview Price fails and Calculate Price returns responses from the external provider instead of Wix's calculations.

Use these flows as a starting point to implement tailored booking experiences.

## Build a custom checkout flow

You can display services and available slots to customers, let them choose their preferred options, then show accurate pricing in your custom checkout before creating the booking.

1. Display a service list to the customer, let them select a service and an available slot. For example, as described in the [appointment end-to-end booking flow](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::9fb560d1-c9e7-450a-beb5-70f6c13cd295#book-an-appointment*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/end-to-end-booking-flows#book-an-appointment).
1. Call [Preview Price](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/pricing/pricing-api/preview-price) specifying `bookingLineItems` with `serviceId`, `numberOfParticipants`, and `choices` for each variant.
1. Display the pricing breakdown in your custom checkout interface using `priceInfo.calculatedPrice` for the total cost and `priceInfo.bookingLineItems[].pricePerParticipant` for individual line item pricing.
1. Call [Create Booking](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/bookings/bookings-writer-v2/create-booking) to complete the booking with the selected slot and pricing information.
1. Once the customer completes the checkout, call [Confirm Or Decline Booking](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/bookings/bookings-writer-v2/confirm-or-decline-booking).
   Set `options.paymentStatus` to `PAID` to update the booking status to `CONFIRMED`.
1. Call [Create Order](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/e-commerce/orders/orders/create-order) with your custom payment details.

## Display booking costs in an external app

To show booking pricing in external apps or 3rd-party systems:

1. Call [Query Extended Booking](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/bookings/bookings-reader-v2/query-extended-bookings) to retrieve the relevant booking object.
1. Call [Calculate Price](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/pricing/pricing-api/calculate-price) specifying the complete `booking` object.
1. Use the returned `priceInfo.calculatedPrice` to display accurate booking costs in your external interface. Make sure to handle deposits and non-numerical prices properly:
   - If `priceInfo.deposit` is present, show deposit requirements separately.
   - Handle responses where `priceInfo.priceDescriptionInfo` contains custom pricing text instead of `calculatedPrice` for services with `CUSTOM` rate types.

## Preview duration-based pricing for a duration-range service

For services with a duration range configured, you can preview the price based on the customer's selected time range. This is useful for duration-range services where the customer chooses how long to book.

1. Call [Get Service](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/services/services-v2/get-service) to retrieve the service and confirm it has a duration range configured in `schedule.availabilityConstraints.durationRange`.
1. Let the customer select their desired start and end times within the allowed duration range.
1. Call [Preview Price](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/bookings/pricing/pricing-api/preview-price) specifying `bookingLineItems` with `serviceId`, `numberOfParticipants`, `localStartDate`, `localEndDate`, and `timeZone`. For example:

1. Display the returned `priceInfo.calculatedPrice` to the customer. The price is calculated based on the duration: per minute for hourly services and per day for daily services.
