Wix Rentals is a scheduling business solution that lets businesses rent out resources such as conference rooms, vehicles, equipment, and venues. Instead of booking a session of a fixed length, customers choose how long they want the resource for, in a minimum and maximum range that you define.
With Wix Rentals, you can:
- Create services with flexible hourly or daily durations.
- Let customers select their own booking length in a range you define.
- Manage bookable resources such as rooms, vehicles, and equipment instead of staff members.
- Price rentals per hour or per day.
- Define custom attributes on resources, such as capacity, amenities, or equipment type, and display them on the public site.
Wix Rentals has no APIs of its own. It runs on the Wix Bookings APIs with field values and restrictions specific to rentals, so a rental offering is a Bookings service and a reservation is a Bookings booking. Learn how each rentals concept maps to a Bookings API.
Availability and pricing work differently in Wix Rentals than in Wix Bookings:
- Availability comes from the schedules of the resources connected to a service, not from staff schedules. The calls you make depend on whether the service is hourly or daily.
- Pricing is based on a rate per hour or per day.
Rentals entities share their APIs with every other booking entity on a site. To isolate them, filter by appId: "ff5d6eb1-65e4-4f9a-8b14-64d34c12cc2e". For example, call Query Services, Query Services by Filters, or Query Extended Bookings with this filter to retrieve only Wix Rentals records.
When you handle an event, such as Booking Created, compare the appId in the event against the Wix Rentals app ID to determine whether the booking belongs to Wix Rentals.
To see these entities created in order, follow the Set up a rental service sample flow.
Wix Rentals automatically integrates with other Wix business solutions:
- Wix CRM: Wix creates contacts automatically for anyone who books a rental.
- Wix eCommerce: Automates payment processing. Learn more about Wix Bookings checkout and payments.
- Wix Forms: Use booking forms to collect customer details.
It's important to note the following points before starting to code:
- Installation: The Wix Rentals app must be installed on the site. Installing it automatically provisions the Bookings infrastructure it needs, so you don't have to install the Wix Bookings app separately.
- Scope: Wix Rentals focuses on resource-based bookings with flexible durations. It doesn't support staff-based scheduling, classes, or courses.
- Duration constraints:
durationRange and sessionDurations are mutually exclusive. The minimum duration must be less than or equal to the maximum. An hourly service allows 30 to 1440 minutes, and a daily service allows 1 to 8 days.
- Buffer time: When an hourly service sets
timeBetweenSessions, Wix applies the buffer automatically when calculating availability. Buffer time isn't applied to daily services. Learn more about buffer time.
- Duration range: A minimum and maximum booking length configured on a service. It replaces fixed session durations for rental-style bookings.
- Unit type: Whether a duration range is measured in hours or days. The
unitType field is either HOUR or DAY.
- Resource type: A category of resources, such as conference rooms. A service connects to a single resource type, and Wix derives the service's availability from the resources in that type.
- Resource: A bookable entity such as a room, a vehicle, or a piece of equipment. Resources belong to a resource type and have their own schedules and availability, independent of staff.
- Consecutive bookings: A group of linked daily bookings, 1 per working day, created together for a multi-day daily rental.
- Attribute: A typed custom property, such as string, number, or boolean, defined once per site and attached to individual resources. Managed through the Bookings Attributes API.
- Catalog search: A way to query a site's rental services and filter by location, resource attributes, and availability in a single call. Managed through the Catalog Search API.
