# About Sections

The Sections API allows you to manage menu sections. Sections gather together various dishes (or [items](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::ad26d386-d18b-4166-9c20-7c04fa3d5e12slug::introduction*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/restaurants/menus/item/introduction)) into groups, such as "Appetizers", "Mains", "Desserts", "Drinks" and so on.

With the Section API, you can:

- Create, delete, and update sections.
- Retrieve the information about a section.

__Caution:__
While it's technically possible, adding the same section to multiple menus can break some functionality on Wix sites. We strongly recommend that you avoid adding any section to more than 1 menu.

## Before you begin

It's important to note the following point before starting to code:

- The Sections API only works with the Wix Restaurants Menus app. Make sure you have installed this app from the [Wix App Market](fallback::https://www.wix.com/app-market/wix-restaurants-menus-new).

## Use cases

- [Sync pizza menus across all sites](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/business-solutions/restaurants/menus/sections/sample-use-cases-and-flows#sync-pizza-menus-across-all-sites)

## Terminology

**Menu**: A list of food and beverage items available for purchase at a restaurant, café, or other dining establishment.

# Sections: Sample Use Cases & Flows

This article presents possible use cases and corresponding sample flows that you can support. It provides a useful starting point as you plan your implementation.

## Sync pizza menus across all sites

If you have several pizzeria sites, you might need to sync menus across those sites. For example, if you have a new section in the menu, called "Salads" this change also needs to be reflected on other sites.

To sync the pizza menu across all sites:

1. Call [Get Section](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/restaurants/wix-restaurants-new/menus/sections/get-section) on the site where you created a new section.
1. Extract the whole `section` object.
1. Call [Create Section](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/restaurants/wix-restaurants-new/menus/sections/create-section) for your other sites and pass the new section to each.
1. Call [Update Menu](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/rest/business-solutions/restaurants/wix-restaurants-new/menus/menus/update-menu) and add the new section ID to the `sectionIds` array.

# Section: Supported Filters and Sorting
