About App Skills

App Skills extensions let you declare skills for Aria, the Wix AI assistant. A skill is a named set of reference documentation that guides Aria through a task. In Wix-managed projects, a skill can also list App Tools that Aria may call.

Aria uses each skill's description and additional metadata, such as tags and example requests, to decide which skill to use for the Wix user's request. Aria then follows that skill's guidelines.

Use App Skills when you want Aria to handle a task the same way every time. For example, you can tell Aria to:

  • Follow a checklist: Walk the Wix user through a set of steps you define, in the order you define.
  • Complete a task across services: Collect information from the Wix user, use it in a service your app connects to, and report the result back.

App Skills across development paths

A Wix-managed app and a Wix-managed headless project each generate a configuration file through the CLI. A Wix-managed app imports the builder from @wix/custom-extensions. A Wix-managed headless project imports it from @wix/astro/builders.

A Studio Two site adds an App Skills extension from the Wix Extension Builder, which generates the configuration file. Its schema differs from the schema for a Wix-managed app or headless project because a Studio Two site declares skills without App Tools, so its skills have no toolMethodNames field. See App Skills Extension Files and Code for both schemas.
