# Add Self-Managed App Skills Extensions in the App Dashboard

Add an [App Skills extension](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/extensions-framework/backend-extensions/app-skills.md) to your app to declare skills for [Aria](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/ai-the-wix-platform/about-aria.md), the Wix AI assistant. A skill is a named set of reference documentation that guides Aria through a task. Use App Skills when you want Aria to handle a task the same way every time. For example, you can tell Aria to collect a customer's details, create an invoice through your 3rd-party invoicing service, and send the invoice number back to the Wix user.

> **Note:** An app can have only 1 App Skills extension, with 1 to 100 skills.

Follow these steps to add an App Skills extension to your self-managed app:

## Step 1 | Add an App Skills extension

Declare the skills your app offers in the [app dashboard](https://manage.wix.com/account/custom-apps).

To add an App Skills extension to your app:

1. Select an app from the [Custom Apps page](https://manage.wix.com/account/custom-apps) in your Wix Studio workspace.

1. On the **Extensions** page, click **+ Create Extension**.

1. Search for **App Skills** and click **+ Create**.

1. In the JSON editor, configure your skills by referencing the **Documentation** panel on the right side of the page.

   The following example configures a package tracking skill. The example uses `toolMethodNames`, which must name a tool already declared in your app's App Tools extension. For more information, see [Add Self-Managed App Tool Extensions with the SDK](https://dev.wix.com/docs/build-apps/develop-your-app/develop-a-self-managed-app/supported-extensions/backend-extensions/app-tools/add-self-managed-app-tool-extensions-with-the-sdk.md). You can leave out `toolMethodNames` for a skill without tools.

   ```json
   {
     "skills": [
       {
         "slug": "package-tracking",
         "displayName": "Package tracking",
         "description": "Answers questions about where a shipment is and when it will arrive. Use when the Wix user asks about the status, location or delivery date of an order or package, or gives a tracking number.",
         "guidelines": "# Package tracking\n\nYou help the Wix user find out where a shipment is.\n\n1. Ask for the carrier tracking number if the Wix user has not given one.\n2. Call `getPackageTracking` with the tracking number exactly as written.\n3. Report the status, the last known location and the estimated delivery date.\n4. If the tool returns an error, tell the Wix user the number could not be found.",
         "toolMethodNames": ["getPackageTracking"],
         "activated": true,
         "tags": ["shipping", "package tracking", "delivery status"],
         "examples": [
           "Where is my package?",
           "Track shipment 1Z999AA10123456784"
         ]
       }
     ]
   }
   ```

   > **Note:** Aria decides whether to use a skill based on its `description` and `examples`. Write them clearly, and include requests a Wix user is likely to make. Set `guidelines` before you set `activated` to `true`.

1. Click **Save**.

## Step 2 | (Optional) Declare tools your skill uses

If a skill calls tools, list their names in `toolMethodNames`. Every name must match a `methodName` value in your app's own [App Tools extension](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/extensions-framework/backend-extensions/app-tools.md). A skill can't call tools declared by other apps. Wix rejects the extension if a name doesn't match.

You can create a skill without tools. Leave out `toolMethodNames` for skills such as a checklist or review.
