# Add App Skills Extensions with the Wix CLI

[App Skills extensions](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/extensions-framework/backend-extensions/app-skills.md) let you declare skills for [Aria](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/ai-the-wix-platform/about-aria.md), the Wix AI assistant. A skill is a named set of reference documentation that guides Aria through a task. In CLI projects, a skill can also list [App Tools](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/extensions-framework/backend-extensions/app-tools.md) that Aria may call.

This task walks you through creating the App Skills extension and declaring your skills.

## Before you begin

- You must have a project created using the [CLI](https://dev.wix.com/docs/wix-cli/guides/about-the-wix-cli.md).
- You must be logged into your Wix account. If you don't have one, [sign up for a Wix account](https://manage.wix.com/account/custom-apps).
- If your skills call tools, [add an App Tools extension and a Tools Provider service plugin](https://dev.wix.com/docs/build-apps/develop-your-app/develop-an-app-with-the-cli/supported-extensions/backend/app-tools/add-app-tools-extensions-with-the-wix-cli.md) first. A skill can call only the tools your own app declares.

## Step 1 | Create the App Skills extension

Generate the extension file where you declare the skills your app offers to AI agents.

In the terminal:

1. Navigate to your project repo.
2. Run the [generate](https://dev.wix.com/docs/wix-cli/command-reference/project-commands/generate.md) command:

    ```bash
    wix generate
    ```

3. Select **App Skills** from the **Backend** menu and press Enter.
4. Enter a name for your extension when prompted.

The CLI generates the extension file and registers it in `src/extensions.ts`. For the generated folder structure and file contents, see [App Skills Extension Files and Code](https://dev.wix.com/docs/build-apps/develop-your-app/develop-an-app-with-the-cli/supported-extensions/backend/app-skills/app-skills-extension-files-and-code.md).

> **Note:** An app can have only 1 App Skills extension. To add more skills, add them to the `skills` array of the existing extension instead of generating a second extension.

## Step 2 | Declare your skills

Configure the skills Aria can discover and use. A skill contains the following components:

- **Slug:** Identifies the skill.
- **Description:** Describes to Aria when to use the skill.
- **Guidelines:** Instructs Aria how to perform the task.

You can also add tags, example requests, and [App Tools](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/extensions-framework/backend-extensions/app-tools.md).

Open the generated `<your-extension-name>.extension.ts` file and replace the stub skill declaration with your own. For field guidance and examples, see [App Skills Extension Files and Code](https://dev.wix.com/docs/build-apps/develop-your-app/develop-an-app-with-the-cli/supported-extensions/backend/app-skills/app-skills-extension-files-and-code.md#app-skills-extension-configuration).

Wix validates your declaration when you release your project. If the release is rejected, see [common errors](https://dev.wix.com/docs/build-apps/develop-your-app/develop-an-app-with-the-cli/supported-extensions/backend/app-skills/app-skills-extension-files-and-code.md#common-errors).

## Step 3 | Build and deploy your project

Changes to App Skills extensions don't take effect until you build and release your project:

```bash
wix build
wix release
```

> **Note:** When you release a project, you create a new app version. You can view your app's versions in the [app dashboard](https://manage.wix.com/app-selector?title=Select+an+App&primaryButtonText=Select+Site&actionUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fdev.wix.com%2Fapps%2F%7BappId%7D%2Fversions-app).

After a site installs your released version, your skills appear in that site's [List App Skills](https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/app-management/app-skills/list-app-skills.md) response.

## Delete App Skills extensions

To remove an App Skills extension from your project:

1. Delete the folder under `src/extensions` that contains your App Skills extension files.
1. Remove the import and `.use()` statement for the extension from your [`extensions.ts`](https://dev.wix.com/docs/build-apps/develop-your-app/develop-an-app-with-the-cli/supported-extensions/about-the-extensions-ts-file.md) file.

If you already have a released version of your app, build and release again after removing the files.
