# About the Pages and Navigation APIs

The Pages and Navigation APIs let you find a Wix site's pages, link to them, send site visitors to them, and show popups over them. Use them to build navigation from the pages a Wix user actually has, and to keep links working when the site's domain or page paths change.

The Pages and Navigation category includes the following APIs:

- [Pages API](https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/site-sdk/pages-and-navigation/pages/introduction.md): Describes the site's pages, including every page's title and path, the page that's currently displayed, and the main page.
- [URL API](https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/site-sdk/pages-and-navigation/url/introduction.md): Gives you the URL of the page a site visitor is on, the site root URL, and the URL of a page that an installed app adds to the site.
- [Router API](https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/site-sdk/pages-and-navigation/router/introduction.md): Sends site visitors to another page, or to an external link, when your code decides where they go.
- [Lightbox API](https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/site-sdk/pages-and-navigation/lightbox/introduction.md): Opens the site's popups over the current page, with the data each popup needs.

## How the APIs work together

- **Links:** To link to a page, join the site root URL from the URL API and the page's path from the Pages API, and render a link. Link the main page to the site root URL itself, which is where site visitors reach it. Call `navigateTo()` in the Router API only when your code decides where to go, such as after a form submits.
- **Popups:** Popups are pages, so they're in the Pages API's `pages` map, with `popup` set to `true`. Open a popup with the Lightbox API, not the Router API.
- **App pages:** A page that an installed app adds to the site is identified by the app's ID and the page's app page ID, which stay the same on every site. The URL API takes both to find the page's URL. In the Pages API, they're the page's `appDefinitionId` and `appPageId`.

## Terminology

- **App page**: A page that an app installed on the site adds to it, such as the Bookings checkout page. Its app page ID stays the same across sites, even though a Wix user can change the page's path.
- **Main page**: The page a visitor reaches at the site root. A Wix user chooses which page this is.
- **Popup**: A page that opens over the page a visitor is already on, rather than replacing it.
- **Router page**: A page whose path combines a fixed prefix with a per-item suffix, such as `/News/spring-sale`. Here the prefix is `/News` and the suffix varies per item.
- **Site root URL**: The site's public base URL. On a free Wix domain it includes a path prefix, such as `https://example.wixsite.com/mysite`.
