# About the Rendering Context API

The Rendering Context API tells you where, and for whom, the page is rendering. Use it to skip code that needs a browser while the page renders on the server, such as reading `window` or `localStorage`, and to render a component's full content for search engine crawlers, such as reviews that site visitors load later.

With the Rendering Context API, you can:

- Check whether code is running without a browser window, such as while the page renders on the server.
- Check whether the page is rendering for a search engine crawler.

## Use cases

- [Render content that search engines can index](https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/site-sdk/rendering-and-performance/rendering-context/sample-flows.md)
- [Skip browser-only work while the page renders on the server](https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/site-sdk/rendering-and-performance/rendering-context/sample-flows.md)

## SDK setup

@package_metadata:@wix/site-service-rendering-context

To use the API, install the `@wix/site-service-rendering-context` package:

```bash
npm install @wix/site-service-rendering-context
```

#### Import the package

```ts
import { RenderingContextDefinition } from '@wix/site-service-rendering-context/definition'
```

#### Resolve the service

In a React component, resolve the service with the `useService` hook:

```tsx
import { useService } from '@wix/services-manager-react'
import { RenderingContextDefinition } from '@wix/site-service-rendering-context/definition'
function ProductImage({ imageUrl, previewUrl }: { imageUrl: string; previewUrl: string }) {
    const renderingContextService = useService(RenderingContextDefinition)
    return <img src={renderingContextService.SEO ? imageUrl : previewUrl} alt="Spring jacket" />
}
```
