# About the Context Provider Manifest

A context provider manifest is a TypeScript configuration object that declares a context provider extension. Studio Two calls this extension a **Data Source**, but the generated manifest uses context provider terminology.

At design time, the editor reads the manifest to present configuration inputs and connect components to exposed values and functions. At runtime, the manifest identifies the provider component that supplies those items.

## Top-level fields

A context provider manifest has the following top-level fields:

| Field | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `id` | Yes | UUID that uniquely identifies the provider. |
| `name` | Yes | Name of the provider. The generated manifest sets it to the name entered in the Wix Extension Builder. |
| `type` | Yes | Globally unique provider type in the form `<code-identifier>.<provider-type>`. In a Studio Two site, the code identifier is always `companionApp`, and the Wix Extension Builder derives the provider type from the name you enter. For example, `Team Filter` becomes `companionApp.teamFilter`. |
| `displayName` | No | Human-readable name of the provider, up to 50 characters. The generated manifest sets it to the name entered in the Wix Extension Builder. |
| `context` | Yes | Values and functions the provider exposes through editor binding. |
| `data` | Yes | Configuration inputs that arrive on the provider component as React props. Use an empty object when the provider has no inputs. |
| `resources` | Yes | Provider component resource and the name of its exported context hook. |
| `settings` | No | Custom settings action that overrides the default settings actions for the provider's `data`. |
| `description` | No | Public description of the provider's main use cases, up to 300 characters. |
