# DataType

The union of every data value type. `DataType` is a meta-type. It is any value a field can
hold, such as a `Text`, a `Link`, or an `Image`. You normally type a prop with the
specific type rather than with `DataType`.

## Component

The runtime type is `DataType` from `@wix/editor-react-types`, the union of all the data
types. Use a specific type when you know it, and use `DataType` only for code that handles
values of any type generically:

```ts
import type { DataType } from '@wix/editor-react-types';
function serialize(value: DataType): string {
  return typeof value === 'string' ? value : JSON.stringify(value);
}
```

There is no manifest declaration for `DataType`. You declare a field with a concrete
`dataType` such as `text` or `link`, and the union is what those resolve to collectively.
