# About App Skills

[App Skills](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/extensions-framework/backend-extensions/app-skills.md) extensions let you declare skills for [Aria](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/ai-the-wix-platform/about-aria.md), the Wix AI assistant. A skill is a named set of reference documentation that guides Aria through a task.

Aria uses each skill's description and additional metadata, such as tags and example requests, to decide which skill to use for the Wix user's request. Aria then follows that skill's guidelines.

Use App Skills when you want Aria to handle a task the same way every time, without the need to create additional prompts. For example, you can tell Aria to:

- **Follow a checklist:** Walk the Wix user through a set of steps you define, in the order you define.
- **Complete a task across services:** Collect information from the Wix user, use it in a service a site connects to, and report the result back.

## Anatomy of an App Skills extension

An App Skills extension in a Studio Two project is a single configuration file. In Studio Two, you add one from the **Code** tab through the **Wix Extension Builder**, and the extension is part of the site project. The file is named `<extension-name>.extension.ts` and is located under `src/extensions/backend/app-skills/<extension-name>/`.

A site can have only 1 App Skills extension. To add more skills, add them to the `skills` array of the existing extension.

The configuration file declares the extension's ID and name, and a `skills` array. A skill contains the following components:

- **Slug:** Identifies the skill.
- **Description:** Describes to Aria when to use the skill.
- **Guidelines:** Instructs Aria how to perform the task.

## How Aria uses your skills

After you publish your site, Aria works with your skills in the following flow:

1. A Wix user sends Aria a request.
2. Aria retrieves the site's skills with [List App Skills](https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/app-management/app-skills/list-app-skills.md). Each skill's description, tags, and example requests help Aria decide whether the skill fits the request.
3. When a skill fits, Aria retrieves its guidelines with [Get App Skill](https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/app-management/app-skills/get-app-skill.md).
4. Aria follows the guidelines to complete the task.
