# Add an App Skills Extension in Studio Two

[App Skills](https://dev.wix.com/docs/studio-two/code-your-site/build-a-custom-backend/app-skills/about-app-skills.md) extensions let you declare skills for [Aria](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/ai-the-wix-platform/about-aria.md), the Wix AI assistant. A skill is a named set of reference documentation that guides Aria through a task.

Follow the instructions below to:

1. Add an App Skills extension to your site project.
2. Declare your skills.
3. Publish your site with the extension.
4. Check that Aria uses a skill.

> **Note:** You can also ask Aria to create and customize the extension.

## Step 1 | Add an App Skills extension

To add an App Skills extension:

1. In the Studio Two editor, open the **Code** tab.
2. In the VS Code sidebar, open the **Wix Extension Builder**.

   ![the Wix Extension Builder in the VS Code activity bar](https://wixmp-833713b177cebf373f611808.wixmp.com/images/6bff2816a5bfe47ed855a1859cd89d5a.png)

3. Under **Create an Extension**, choose **Backend**, then **App Skills**.
4. Fill in the form:
   - **Extension name**
5. Click **Generate**.

You can find the new file under `src/extensions/backend/app-skills/<extension-name>/`. The extension is registered in your project's `extensions.ts` and listed under **My Extensions**. The configuration file `<extension-name>.extension.ts` declares your skills. For what's in the file, see [App Skills Extension Files and Code](https://dev.wix.com/docs/backend-extensions/app-skills/app-skills-extension-files-and-code.md).

A site can have only 1 App Skills extension. If you already have one, add your skills to its `skills` array instead of generating a second extension. Generating a duplicate blocks **Publish**.

## Step 2 | Declare your skills

You can edit the generated file to match the skills you want to offer. Change the code yourself, or ask the AI in the **Code** tab to help.

For the full walkthrough, see [Build an App Skills Extension in Studio Two](https://dev.wix.com/docs/studio-two/code-your-site/build-a-custom-backend/app-skills/build-an-app-skills-extension-in-studio-two.md).

For example, to declare a skill that guides Aria through a refund request:

1. Open `<extension-name>.extension.ts`.
2. Add an entry to the `skills` array:

   ```typescript
   {
     slug: 'refund-request',
     displayName: 'Refund request',
     description:
       'Guides the handling of a customer refund request. ' +
       'Use when a Wix user asks how to respond to a customer who wants a refund.',
     guidelines:
       '# Refund request\n\n' +
       '1. Ask for the order number and the reason for the refund.\n' +
       '2. Summarize the request in 2 sentences.\n' +
       '3. Draft a polite reply that confirms the request was received.',
     examples: ['A customer wants a refund for order #4521. What should I reply?'],
     activated: true
   }
   ```

3. Save the file.

When a Wix user asks Aria a question that matches the skill's description, Aria follows the skill's guidelines.

## Step 3 | Publish your site

Your skills only become available to Aria after you publish.

To publish your site:

1. In the Studio Two editor, click **Publish**.

## Step 4 | Check that Aria uses a skill

To check that Aria can discover and follow your skill:

1. Open your site's dashboard.
2. On the **Home** page, open the **Ask me anything** Aria box, or open the Aria side panel.
3. Ask a question that matches your skill's description, phrased the way a Wix user would, without naming the skill. For example, for the `refund-request` skill, ask "A customer wants a refund for order 12345. What should I reply?"

If the skill is discoverable, Aria replies by following the skill's guidelines, such as asking for the order number and the reason for the refund.
