Choose an Extension Type

New to Wix extensions? This article maps common goals to the extension type that fits, so you can find the right starting point without already knowing the catalog. Each goal links to the article that covers the extension in depth.

For the full list of extensions, see About Extensions.

Build a custom component for a Wix site

You want to add a UI component that Wix users can place and configure on any page. Examples include a product configurator, an interactive map, a custom media player, or a social media feed. Use a site widget, or an Editor React Component if you only need it on Wix Harmony and want a native editing experience.

Add a whole page to a Wix site

You want to contribute an entire page to a Wix site, with its own URL and navigation entry. Examples include a community forum, a custom gallery, a dedicated booking flow, or a member portal. Use a site page.

Extend a Wix business solution's page

You want to plug functionality into a page a Wix business solution already provides. Examples include adding product reviews to a Stores product page, custom fields to a Bookings service page, a post-purchase upsell on the eCommerce thank-you page, or sharing controls to a Blog post page. Use a site plugin.

Add tracking, analytics, or persistent UI to a Wix site

You want to add a pinned UI element, a third-party tracking tag, or a script that runs across the site. Examples include a chat bubble in the corner, a notification bar at the top of every page, Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or JavaScript that responds to Wix events and reports to an external system. Use an embedded script.

Build a custom page in the dashboard

You want a dedicated place in the dashboard for Wix users to manage your functionality. Examples include an app settings page, a data-management UI, a reporting view, or a campaign-management dashboard. Use a dashboard page.

Add a focused interaction to the dashboard

You want a short, contextual interaction that interrupts the current dashboard flow without taking the Wix user away. Examples include a confirmation prompt, an authentication flow, a terms-of-service acceptance, or a quick-edit form. Use a dashboard modal.

Extend a Wix business solution's dashboard page

You want to add custom data or actions to a Wix-built dashboard page. Examples include a custom shipping-rate panel on the Stores Orders page, an app-specific action on a CRM contact, or a panel on the Bookings Calendar. Use a dashboard plugin.

Add a shortcut to an existing dashboard menu

You want a clickable item in an existing dashboard menu. Examples include linking from a Wix business solution's menu to one of your own dashboard pages, or opening a quick-action modal in place. Use a dashboard menu plugin.
