Test Your App for Cookie Consent Compliance

It's extremely important to ensure that your app complies with each site's cookie consent policy. In order to comply, you must ensure that your app doesn't initiate any operations before confirming the user's consent (referred to as "block pre-consent loading").

You can test this on your own, or use the free service provided by Usercentrics using their Cookiebot for Wix app.

Wix highly recommends testing all flows regularly to ensure compliance.

Check for pre-consent loading with the Cookiebot for Wix app

The Cookiebot for Wix by Usercentrics CMP app allows apps to identify components that load before obtaining consent.

1. Request a coupon for the Cookiebot app from Wix's dev care support.
2. Install the app on your test site, apply the coupon, navigate to the Cookiebot for Wix by Usercentrics app, and initiate a scan. Ensure that both your app and the test site are active.
3. Upon completion of the scan, if your app is recognized in the system, the scan report will display the following information:
   • The name of your app as it appears in Wix.
   • The current categorization used by Wix (“Current Category”) in response to consent.
   • The categorization suggested by Cookiebot by Usercentrics for Wix (“Recommended Category”), based on our evaluation.
   • A verification check to see if your app runs before consent is obtained (“Blocked Prior Consent”).
   • A service description used in the Cookiebot banner for explaining the app to website visitors.
4. If your app isn't already identified in our system, the scan will show the URL requests made by your app, which will be used for further analysis.

Test manually

Whether you take advantage of the Cookiebot app service or not, you should be regularly testing your app for consent policy compliance.

To test for compliance, complete the following:

1. Create a test site or open an existing test site.
2. Add a cookie banner to your test site.
3. Add a “Do Not Sell Data” link to your test site.
4. Visit your test site in incognito and interact with the cookie banner and "Do Not Sell Data" Link:
   • Decline all cookies.
   • Decline the sale of data.
5. Verify that your app behaves properly based on your selected cookie policy and data policy.
6. Revisit your test site in incognito and select different combinations of cookies, and verify that your app behaves properly for all combinations.
