# About the Payment Links API

Payment links are unique URLs that Wix users can send to customers, allowing them to make convenient online payments for goods and services. Learn more about [Wix payment links](fallback::https://support.wix.com/en/article/wix-pay-links-creating-and-managing-pay-links). Each payment link can be used multiple times to pay for the same items.

The Payment Links API enables you to create and share payment links and manage their activation status.

## Payment link types
There are 2 types of payment links: 
- **Ecom**: Link for payment of custom or catalog line items. Use this type to send a customer a link to checkout for a specified list of items that either already exist in the Wix user's site (for example, Wix Stores products), or items that you manage for the site, either using the [eCommerce Catalog Service Plugin](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/backend-modules/ecom/service-plugins/catalog/introduction), or as custom line items.
- **EcomOrder**: Link for payment of an existing Wix eCommerce Order. Use this type if a customer has already created an order but hasn't paid for it yet, and specify the amount to charge the customer when you create the payment link.
  
## Payment link statuses
Payment links can have one of the following statuses:

- **Active**: The link is currently accepting payments.
- **Inactive**: The link is not accepting payments.
- **Expired**: The link’s validity period has ended, and payments can no longer be accepted.
- **Paid**: Payment has been successfully received through the link.

## Payment link uses
Payment links can be sent to potential buyers, leading them through a checkout flow when they open the link. 
Additionally, these links can initiate a checkout flow without requiring the buyer to open the payment link. This feature is particularly useful for Wix users meeting customers in person, allowing them to facilitate the checkout process directly on the Wix user's device. ## Before you begin
It's important to note the following points before starting to code:
- Payment links are only available for premium sites with at least one connected payment method.
- Payment links can be created, activated and deactivated. Once settings including price value and payment limit are set during creation, they can't be changed.
- Payment links can't be deleted once funds have been received for them.
- Ecom type payment links with catalog line items support the following:

    - Products using the [Wix eCommerce Catalog Service Plugin](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/backend-modules/ecom/service-plugins/catalog/introduction). 
If your implementation isn't selling items using one of these, you should only create an Ecom type payment links with custom line items. 
- The [Initiate Payment](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/backend-modules/get-paid/payment-links/payment-links/initiate-payment) method is not intended for use in the standard payment link flow. It is intended for Wix users meeting customers in person, allowing them to facilitate the checkout process directly on the Wix user's device.

## Create and send a payment link to predefined contacts
You can create and send a payment link by completing the following steps:

1. Call [Create Payment Link](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/backend-modules/get-paid/payment-links/payment-links/create-payment-link) to create a payment link, and specify the following:
   - Type: Specify either `ECOM` and the corresponding `ecomPaymentLink` with details about the items to be purchased, or `ECOM_ORDER` and the corresponding `ecomOrderPaymentLink` with the Wix eCommerce order ID.
   - Recipients: Contact IDs of buyers who should receive the payment link, and the channels to use when sending the payment link.
2. Call [Send Payment Link](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/backend-modules/get-paid/payment-links/payment-links/send-payment-link) to send the created payment link. The payment link will be sent to the predefined recipients.

> **Note**: If you didn't specify recipients in the Create Payment Link request, you should specify them in the [Send Payment Link](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/backend-modules/get-paid/payment-links/payment-links/send-payment-link) request instead.

3. Buyer opens the payment link and is directed to a Wix eCommerce checkout page.
4. Buyer completes checkout.
5. A [payment link payment](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/backend-modules/get-paid/payment-links/payment-link-payments/introduction) is created.

## Create a payment link for Wix Stores products
You can create and send a payment link for specific Wix Stores products by completing the following:

Call [Create Payment Link](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/backend-modules/get-paid/payment-links/payment-links/create-payment-link) to create a payment link, and specify the following:
- `type`:`ECOM`.
- In the `ecomPaymentLink` object:
   - specify the `lineItems.type` = `CATALOG`, and in the `catalogItem` object,
   - specify the Wix Stores Catalog product ID as the `catalogReference.catalogItemId`, 
   - specify Wix Stores' `catalogReference.appId`: "215238eb-22a5-4c36-9e7b-e7c08025e04e". 

## Lead a Wix user directly to a checkout page for an existing payment link
1. Select an existing payment link, or create one.
1. Display a call to action that calls [Initiate Payment](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/backend-modules/get-paid/payment-links/payment-links/initiate-payment) and specifies a payment link ID.
2. When the Wix user initiates the action, direct them to the returned URL.  
   Note that For `ECOM` type payment links, `ecomCheckout.checkoutUrl` is returned, and for `ECOM_ORDER` type payment links, `ecomOrder.orderUrl` is returned.
3. Wix user completes the checkout on behalf of the buyer.
4. A [payment link payment](fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/backend-modules/get-paid/payment-links/payment-link-payments/introduction) is created.
