About the Standalone Forms API

The Standalone Forms API lets you host a Wix form at its own public URL, so responders can fill it out without visiting a Wix site.

A standalone form references a form created with the Wix Forms API. The form itself doesn't indicate whether it's standalone. A form is standalone when a standalone form references it.

With the Standalone Forms API, you can:

  • Mark an existing form as standalone.
  • Retrieve and query standalone forms.
  • Delete standalone forms, and restore or permanently delete them from the trash bin.
  • Retrieve a site's currency and locale to localize a standalone form when you render it.

Site ownership

Each standalone form is owned by a site. The owning site is the site your request is authorized for. For apps, this is the site the app is installed on. The standalone form stores the owning site's ID in metaSiteId.

A standalone form isn't displayed on the owning site. Responders reach it through its public URL.

Public URL

The standalone form's id and accountSlug make up its public URL:

  • https://{accountSlug}.wixforms.com/f/{id} when accountSlug is set.
  • https://www.wixforms.com/f/{id} when accountSlug is empty.

accountSlug is set when the standalone form is created and doesn't change afterward.

Before you begin

It's important to note the following points before starting to code:

  • The form must already exist before you mark it as standalone. Create and manage forms with the Wix Forms API.
  • Each form can be marked standalone once per site.
  • Deleting a standalone form means the form is no longer standalone. The form itself isn't deleted.

Use cases

Terminology

  • Standalone form: A reference to a form that makes the form available at its own public URL.
  • Owning site: The site that owns a standalone form. Set to the site the request is authorized for when the standalone form is created.
  • Account slug: A short name for the site owner's account, used in the standalone form's public URL.
