Name your app to generate a namespace. This lets you refer to your app in code later on.

Dashboard page extensions now let you control how pages appear in dashboard search. In the Wix CLI, set `metaData` to choose whether a page is searchable and to describe it. In self-managed apps, use the new **Dashboard search** fields. The Wix CLI also adds a `fullPage` option to hide the dashboard sidebar while a page is open.

You can now declare the slots that can host a site plugin by listing a placement slot ID for each slot in the `placementsSlotIds` array of the plugin's configuration. Every supported Wix app page now lists the placement slot ID for each of its slots. The legacy `placements` format isn't deprecated and existing plugins keep working, but we recommend migrating to `placementsSlotIds`.

Checkout plugins can now match the merchant's checkout theme. The checkout passes the resolved design for the section your slot renders in as a new `slotBrand` property. It carries properties such as background, text, button, and selection colors. It's always defined, falls back to sensible defaults when the merchant hasn't customized their checkout, and its text colors are pre-resolved for contrast against their backgrounds.

You can now build a custom panel for an Editor React Component using the new [React Elements API](https://dev.wix.com/docs/sdk/host-modules/editor/react-elements/introduction). A custom panel adds a new action-bar button alongside the auto panels, so a Wix user gets both, and gives you full control over panel layout, controls, and logic an auto panel can't provide.

These APIs are available only for apps with site page extensions. They aren't available from a site widget or plugin's settings panel.

The Wix site dashboard (Business Manager) for all Wix editors has been redesigned with the Harmony theme. Because dashboard apps run inside an iframe, they don't automatically inherit the new look. The new [Business Manager redesign migration guide](https://www.wix-pages.com/design-system-documentation/#/page/guidelines/businessmanagerredesign) provides the steps required to update your app. It complements the [Harmony theme UX guidelines](https://www.wix-pages.com/design-system-documentation/#/page/guidelines/harmonytheme), which cover design changes only. - Update `@wix/design-system` and `@wix/wix-ui-icons-common` to the latest versions.
- Load the Harmony theme tokens and wrap your app with the icon and default props providers.
- Import icons from the `@wix/wix-ui-icons-common/lazy` entry point so they render in the new icon set.
- Apply manual component adjustments and replace hardcoded styles with `--wds-*` design tokens.

App Tools is a new extension type that lets your app expose custom tools to the [Aria AI Assistant](https://dev.wix.com/docs/overview/ai-the-wix-platform/about-aria). When a Wix user chat with Aria in the site dashboard, Aria can discover and call your tools to retrieve data, run workflows, complete actions, and call 3rd-party APIs and services on behalf of the Wix user. Any functionality your app can perform can be exposed as a tool. # About the Containers Chat API

The Containers Chat API manages conversations and messages for the Wix AI coding agent. Use this API to add the coding agent's chat experience to your app, so users can send requests, follow the agent's progress, and read its responses.

With the Containers Chat API, you can:

- Create and manage conversations for a project.
- Send user messages to the coding agent.
- Answer clarifying questions from the coding agent.
- Read a conversation's message history, including responses that are still in progress.

## Conversations and messages

A conversation is a chat thread about a single project. A project can have multiple conversations. A conversation holds the thread's details, such as its status and title. The messages in a conversation are returned separately by [Query Messages](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::query-messages*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/query-messages).

Each message has a `role` that shows who sent it, a `status` that shows its progress, and a `type` that shows where its content is stored.

## The message lifecycle

When you call [Send Message](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::send-message*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/send-message), 2 messages are created:

1. The user message, with `DONE` status.
1. An assistant message with `WORKING` status. Its `inReplyToId` is the ID of the user message.

While the coding agent works, the assistant message's `tasks` field holds a live checklist of the agent's work items. When the agent finishes, the assistant message's status changes to `DONE`. If the agent fails, the status changes to `ERROR`, and `parts` contains the reason for the failure.

## Message types

The message's `type` determines which field holds its content:

| Type | Sent by | Content |
|------|---------|---------|
| `TEXT` | User or assistant | Conversational content, in `parts`. This is the default type. |
| `QUESTIONNAIRE` | Assistant | Questions the agent needs answered before it continues, in `questionnairePayload`. |
| `QUESTIONNAIRE_RESPONSE` | User | The user's answers to a `QUESTIONNAIRE` message, in `questionnaireResponsePayload`. |
| `CHECKPOINT` | Assistant | A marker for a saved version of the project, in `checkpointPayload`. A checkpoint isn't a reply to a user message, so it has no `inReplyToId`. Show it in the conversation as a version marker. |

To answer a `QUESTIONNAIRE` message, call [Send Message](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::send-message*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/send-message) with `type` set to `QUESTIONNAIRE_RESPONSE`. In `questionnaireResponsePayload`, specify the ID of the `QUESTIONNAIRE` message and the user's answers, keyed by question ID. The questionnaire's `status` then changes to `ANSWERED`.

## Tracking the assistant's response

The API doesn't push updates in real time. After you call [Send Message](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::send-message*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/send-message), poll [Query Messages](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::query-messages*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/query-messages) until the assistant message's `status` changes from `WORKING` to `DONE` or `ERROR`. Then check the message's `type`:

- `TEXT`: The response is in `parts`. Suggested next questions are in `followUpQuestionOptions`.
- `QUESTIONNAIRE`: The questions are in `questionnairePayload`.

## Before you begin

It's important to note the following points before starting to code:

- This API is in Beta.
- Conversations belong to a project. You need the project's ID to create a conversation.
- [Send Message](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::send-message*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/send-message) requires an `idempotencyKey`. Use a unique key for each user message. The key doesn't prevent duplicates, so a retried request creates a new user message. Before you retry a failed request, call [Query Messages](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::query-messages*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/query-messages) to check whether the user message was created.
- New conversations always have `ACTIVE` status and the title `new chat`.
- A conversation's `sessionId` is set automatically when the coding agent starts building the project. You don't need to set it.

## Terminology

- **Conversation**: A chat thread about a project. A project can have multiple conversations.
- **Message**: A single turn in a conversation, sent by the user or by the coding agent.
- **Assistant message**: A message from the coding agent. It starts with `WORKING` status and changes to `DONE` or `ERROR`.
- **Task**: A work item that the coding agent shows in a live checklist on an assistant message while it works.
- **Questionnaire**: A set of questions that the coding agent needs answered before it continues.
- **Checkpoint**: A message that marks a saved version of the project.

# Containers Chat API: Sample Flows

This article presents possible use cases and corresponding sample flows that you can support. It provides a useful starting point as you plan your implementation.

## Send a message and track the assistant's response

When a user asks the coding agent to change their project, your app sends the request as a message and then shows the agent's progress until the response is ready. The API doesn't push updates, so your app polls for the current state of the conversation.

To send a message and track the assistant's response:

1. Call [Create Conversation](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::create-conversation*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/create-conversation) with the project's ID in `conversation.projectId`. Save the returned `conversation.id`.

1. Call [Send Message](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::send-message*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/send-message) with the conversation ID, the user's request in `parts`, and a unique `idempotencyKey`. Save the returned `message.id`. This is the user message ID.

1. Find the assistant message whose `inReplyToId` matches the user message ID. Its `status` is `WORKING`, and its `tasks` list shows the agent's current work items.

1. Continue to call [Query Messages](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::query-messages*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/query-messages) at regular intervals, and update the task checklist in your app, until the assistant message's `status` changes to `DONE` or `ERROR`.

1. Show the assistant message's `parts` to the user. When the status is `DONE`, `parts` holds the agent's response. When the status is `ERROR`, `parts` holds the reason for the failure.

1. Show the questions in `followUpQuestionOptions` as suggested next requests. When the user selects one, call [Send Message](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::send-message*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/send-message) again with a new `idempotencyKey`.

## Answer a clarifying questionnaire

Sometimes the coding agent needs more information before it can continue. In this case, the assistant message is completed with `type` set to `QUESTIONNAIRE` instead of `TEXT`. Your app shows the questions, collects the user's answers, and sends them back to the agent.

To answer a clarifying questionnaire:

1. Call [Query Messages](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::query-messages*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/query-messages) with the conversation ID. Find the assistant message with `DONE` status and `type` set to `QUESTIONNAIRE`. Save its `id`. This is the questionnaire message ID.

1. Show the questions in `questionnairePayload.questions` to the user. For each question, show its `options`. Let the user select more than one option when `multiSelect` is `true`, and let the user type their own answer.

1. Call [Send Message](portalId::d1972c09-74e2-4d36-a6f2-54e3310d4ad9resourceId::d2217e58-4dcf-47c5-a247-b27f86e250dfslug::send-message*fallback::https://dev.wix.com/docs/api-reference/mobile/containers-app/containers-chat/conversation-v1/send-message) with these values:

    - `type`: `QUESTIONNAIRE_RESPONSE`.
    - `questionnaireResponsePayload.questionnaireMessageId`: The questionnaire message ID.
    - `questionnaireResponsePayload.answers`: The user's answers, keyed by each question's `id`. For example:
